About Postbyen

Postbyen has been created as a calm urban retreat in the heart of the city — a place with room to pause, reflect and unwind.

Car-free streets and lanes weave between squares, green pockets and intimate urban spaces, all centred around the city park. The relaxed atmosphere is echoed in the circular, organic architecture, creating a setting that feels open, welcoming and human.

With homes, shops, eateries and lifestyle-oriented amenities, Postbyen brings together everything a modern urban district needs — designed around the way people want to live today.

It is simply a place where people feel good.

The Architecture

Postbyen’s architectural ambition is rooted in an inclusive philosophy that puts people first. The transformation and reinterpretation of this formerly closed-off area in central Copenhagen has created an open urban district of international calibre.

The distinctive round towers have become a new landmark on the Copenhagen skyline, while the large glass façades do more than bring light into the interior spaces — they mirror the rhythm of the day and the changing seasons like an ever-evolving canvas.

Behind the scenes

We have followed Postbyen’s development every step of the way.

A Century of Letters and Stamps

A sense of history

The old postal area was once an important hub for communication throughout Denmark. But suddenly, there was no longer the same need for so many stamps.

1909-1912

The Central Post Building

The Central Post Building was designed by DSB architect Heinrich Wenck and built for the Danish Post and Telegraph Service between 1909 and 1912.

1979

The postal sorting terminal

The postal sorting terminal was completed in 1979, and the entire area served as the headquarters of the Danish postal service until 2015.

2018

The transformation

The plan was in place, and in 2018 the demolition began. The first phase, Danske Bank’s new and prestigious headquarters, was completed in 2023.

2026

The intermediate phase

In 2026, Postbyen officially came to life with the completion of what we call Phase 2. The homes were finished, residents moved in, and shops, eateries and clinics began filling the ground-floor premises. Jeppe Hein’s water sculpture was also activated, adding life and movement to the city park.

The same year also marked the beginning of Phase 3, which will add offices, affordable housing and youth housing to the district.

2027

THE STAMP

In 2027, LEGO will move into the building The Stamp, bringing 1,500 creative employees together under the title “Copenhagen Hub”.
The lower level of the building will be home to a longevity concept offering training, wellness and treatments. The concept is called BluezoneLife and is inspired by areas of the world where people live better and longer.
